Medical Education & Internship Program

At People’s Community Clinic, we offer hands-on learning experiences for students eager to make a difference in the lives of uninsured and medically underserved Central Texans. No matter your field of study or degree level, we provide opportunities tailored to your skills and career goals, helping you gain real-world experience in healthcare.

About the Program

Our Medical Education and Internship Program is designed to empower students preparing for careers in healthcare. Through immersive, thought-provoking experiences, undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral students gain firsthand exposure to clinical and administrative roles in a supportive learning environment.

People’s Community Clinic partners with many schools and programs across Austin and surrounding areas. To check if your institution is affiliated, click HERE to review our current list of partners. If your school or program is not listed, please have them email volunteer@austinpcc.org to establish a partnership before you apply.

Program Requirements

All accepted clinical learners and interns must complete the onboarding process before starting their roles. This includes:

  • Completing onboarding requirements through our HR system
  • Submitting any required documents
  • Attending the in-person orientation
    • This orientation introduces our organization and ensures participants have the tools and access needed to succeed.

Eligibility Requirements

To be eligible for the Medical Education and Internship Program, applicants must:

  • Be currently enrolled in an accredited university or program
  • Review the role description before applying
  • Complete the Medical Education and Internship Program application
  • Consent to a criminal background check or submit an attestation letter from your school or program.

Immunization Requirements

If accepted, applicants must meet and submit proof of the following required immunizations (or provide an attestation letter from their school or program):

  • MMR – Measles, Mumps, Rubella
  • Varicella – Chickenpox (either proof of vaccination or history of disease)
  • TB Test – A TB blood test (QFT Gold or T-Spot) within 90 days of application submission
  • Flu Shot – Must have received the current seasonal flu vaccine
  • TDAP – Tetanus, Diphtheria, and Pertussis (within the last 10 years)
